Think Environmental secures controlling stakes in 3 mining leases in Ghana

The Think Environmental Co says it has acquired a 51% stake in African Stellar (West Africa) (ASWA), giving the company a stake in three mining leases in Ghana.

These are the concessions of Akropong, Koniwah and Konongo which have been producing gold through artisanal workings.

The Akropong lease comprises both alluvial and hard rock deposits and is a large small-scale mining site with extensive artisanal workings, particularly in the north-west section of the lease. The Koniwah lease is also a small-scale mining site made up of high-grade hard rock alluvial deposits with historical mining shafts and workings left behind by earlier miners. The Konongo lease is an alluvial small-scale mining site with recent workings left behind by illegal miners who have since been removed from these sites.

Ghana is the second-largest gold-producing country in Africa (after South Africa) and produces over 2 million oz of gold per annum. Its artisanal and small-scale mining sector produces 600,000 oz of gold.
