Palm oil company Golden Agri-Resources says food giant Nestle SA has placed an order to resume palm oil purchases from its Indonesia-listed subsidiary PT SMART.
Nestle, the world’s largest food company, had stopped buying palm oil from PT SMART last year after environmental activist group Greenpeace alleged the Indonesian company was destroying rainforests to make way for its plantations.
Golden Agri later developed a joint action plan with an international NGO The Forest Trust, to ensure its subsidiaries could meet Nestle’s guidelines.
