The following companies may have unusual price changes in Singapore trading today. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices are from the previous close. Singapore’s Straits Times Index increased 0.8% to 2,789.04.
Chip Eng Seng Corp. (CHIP SP): The real-estate and construction company said it agreed to buy a commercial building in Melbourne, Australia, for A$25 million ($32 million). Chip Eng Seng gained 1.4% to 36.5 cents.
Cosco Corp. Singapore (COS SP): The shipbuilding unit of China’s biggest shipping company said a European customer has confirmed an order for a special-purpose carrier. Cosco added 0.5% to $1.03.
Nam Cheong (NCL SP): The Malaysian builder of offshore support vessels entered a joint venture pact with PT Bahtera Niagra Internasional, Carimin Sdn Bhd and CTNS Marine Sdn Bhd to acquire Intact Fleet Sdn Bhd for about 88 million ringgit ($35.5 million). The stock slipped 1.5% to 13.2 cents.
Singapore Technologies Engineering (STE SP): Asia’s biggest aircraft maintenance company said Raphael Chin has been named as acting chief financial officer of its U.S. unit Vision Technologies Systems Inc. Chief Financial Officer Patrick Lee Swee Ching has taken a leave of absence pending an investigation by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and an internal inquiry, the company said. The shares rose 1.7% to S$2.93.
Singapore Telecommunications (ST SP): Southeast Asia’s biggest phone company said it expects sales in Singapore and Australia to grow at a “low-single-digit level” for the year ending March 2012. Pretax earnings in Australia are also expected to post single-digit growth, while those in Singapore will be “stable,” it said. SingTel, as the company is known, lost 1.3% to $3.06.
Tiger Airways Holdings (TGR SP): The budget carrier partly owned by Singapore Airlines (SIA SP) said there has been no progress in the regulatory approval of its planned partnership with Thai Airways International Plc. The company said it will review its position on the Thai venture. Tiger Air gained 1.7% to 91.5 cents.
