Singapore’s Straits Times Index lost 0.6% to 2,773.29 as of 9:15 a.m. local time. Six stocks fell for each that rose in the index of 30 companies. The following shares were among the most active in the market.
Commodity suppliers: The Thomson Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index, which tracks prices of 19 commodities from copper to corn, fell 0.9% in New York on Sept. 16, extending its decline for a third day.
Noble Group (NOBL SP), a Hong Kong-based supplier of energy, food and mining commodities, decreased 1% to $1.535. Olam International (OLAM SP), a Singapore-based supplier of agricultural commodities, slipped 0.4% to $2.50.
Nam Cheong (NCL SP), a Malaysian builder of offshore support vessels, gained 3.8% to 13.7 cents. The company said it entered a joint venture pact with PT Bahtera Niagra Internasional, Carimin and CTNS Marine to acquire Intact Fleet for about 88 million ringgit ($35.4 million).
Singapore Technologies Engineering (STE SP), Asia’s biggest aircraft maintenance company, dropped 1.7% to $2.88. The company said Raphael Chin has been named as acting chief financial officer of its U.S. unit Vision Technologies Systems Inc. Chief Financial Officer Patrick Lee Swee Ching has taken a leave of absence pending an investigation by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and an internal inquiry, the company said.
