Singapore Airlines recorded a one percentage point improvement in its passenger load factor in February, to 76.1%, thanks to demand for flights to and fro Singapore for the Singapore Airshow held from Feb 14 to 19.
SIA said the number of passengers carried increased 6.5% to 1.4 million in the month.
Systemwide passenger carriage saw a 6.8% year-on-year growth while capacity increased 5.4% in the month.
However, SIA said: “The operating environment remains challenging with jet fuel prices increasing 14% over the same month last year. Passenger yields are likely to come under pressure with intense competition, coupled with recent promotional fare activities.”
Its regional carrier, SilkAir reported a 3.2 percentage point decline in passenger load factor to 73.9% in February , as systemwide passenger carriage increased 14.4% year-on-year against 19.3% growth in capacity.
Overall, cargo traffic increased 7.1% from a year ago, while cargo capacity increased 6.9%. Consequently, cargo load factor in February 2012 increased by 0.1 percentage point.
