Oct 29: NOL, Wilmar, Ho Bee, Nobel Design, Mermaid Maritime

Singapore stocks may rise after US economic growth edges up.

The blue-chip Straits Times Index ended up 0.4% or 12.78 points at 3,057.51 on Thursday before closing for the Hari Raya Haji holiday. In the broader market, 1.39 billion shares changed hands. Gainers beat losers 207 to 193.Here are some stocks and factors to watch:

Container shipping firm Neptune Orient Lines swung to a third-quarter net profit of US$50 million ($61 million) from a net loss of US$91 million a year earlier, mainly due to cost cuts as well as improved liner and logistics performance.

Palm oil giant Wilmar said it was partnering chemicals firm Clariant to produce and sell amines and certain amines derivatives.

Singapore's Ho Bee Investment and Nobel Design both requested a halt in the trading of their shares pending an announcement. Ho Bee is in talks to sell Hotel Windsor in Singapore, which could fetch around $163 million, the Business Times reported. The potential buyer is a consortium which may include Nobel Design, the newspaper said.

Mermaid Maritime said Seadrill Ltd had bought 12.2 million shares in its associate, Asia Offshore Drilling, at US$5.00 each, bringing its stake to 64.23%. Seadrill will then make a cash offer for the remaining shares.

Frasers Commercial Trust (FCOT) reported a distribution per unit (DPU) of 1.75 cents for the fourth quarter, up 15.1% from the same period a year ago.

Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust (Suntec REIT) reported a distribution per unit (DPU) of 2.35 cents for the third quarter ended Sept 30, down 7.2% from a year ago.

CapitaCommercial Trust (CCT) has posted distribution per unit (DPU) of 2.04 cents for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2012, up 12% from the same period last year.

Capitamalls Asia (CMA) has recorded a net profit of $62.4 million for the three months ended September, a jump of 70.8% from a year ago.
