Singapore shares edged higher by midday, outperforming other Asian bourses, helped by strong gains in property owner CapitaMall Trust and palm oil company Golden Agri-Resources.
By 1:16 p.m., the benchmark Straits Times Index was up 0.2% at 3,052.25 points, while the MSCI index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.1%.
CapitaMall Trust, which owns shopping malls, rose 2.8% to $2.19, making it the largest gainer on the STI, while its parent CapitaMalls Asia also climbed 2% to $1.825, buoyed by strong outlook for the region's retail spending. Golden Agri climbed 2.4% to $0.65 in heavy trading.
Shares of healthcare provider AsiaMedic jumped 9.4% to $0.093 after it said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Asia Merit to explore potential healthcare opportunities in Myanmar together.
