Aug 6: SingPost, StarHub, Linc Energy, HG Metal

The Straits Times Index (STI) on Tuesday ended 9.27 points higher or +0.28% to 3,327.67, taking the year-to-date performance to +5.14%. The top active stocks were DBS (+1.10%), Global Logistic (-0.36%), UOB (-0.61%), SingTel (+1.29%), OCBC Bank (+1.01%). Here are some stocks and factors to watch this Wednesday morning:

Singapore's parliament has passed a bill proposing to fine companies that pollute the country's air, regardless of whether the companies operate on the island.

Singapore Post on Tuesday said its net profit for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2014 rose 5.1% to $39.24 million. Revenue increased 4.8% to $210.91 million, as growth in e-commerce related activities continued to offset declines in the traditional postal business.

StarHub has posted a 6.3% decrease in net profit to $94.3 million for the second quarter ended June 30. Operating revenue for the same period stood at $576.4 million, slipping 1.8% from the same period a year ago.

HG Metal Manufacturing recorded a net loss after tax of $13.3 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2014 (2Q2014), compared to a profit of $0.7 million in 2Q2013 due to one-time provisions for inventories, doubtful debts and asset impairment on disposal of factory assets.
