Aug 6: APB, F&N, ThaiBev, Sembcorp, Ascott REIT, SIA

Singapore stocks may rise on US jobs, hopes for Europe action.

Singapore share prices ended 0.5% higher on Friday. The blue-chip Straits Times Index climbed 15.14 points to end at 3,051.33. In the broader market, 1.32 billion shares changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 217 to 141.

Here are some stocks and factors to watch:

Fraser and Neave has reached an agreement with Heineken NV for the latter to acquire Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) at $50 per share. The offer price represents a 45% premium over the one month volume weighted average price per share, and works out to a total consideration of $5.1 million.

Thai Beverage
said it signed an agreement with banks for a $2.8 billion loan facility to finance its purchase of Fraser and Neave shares. The banks are the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp Ltd, Standard Chartered Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.

Sembcorp Industries reported a 8.9% increase in earnings to $190.73 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2012 from last year.

The manager of Saizen REIT announced the purchase of Rise Yotsugibashi for 428.00 million yen ($6.8 million) from an independent seller.

CapitaLand said its wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott, is acquiring a prime hotel operating in London for £158.8 million ($311 million).

Singapore Airlines' regional wing, SilkAir, intends to acquire 68 new aircrafts from Boeing, with firm-order aircrafts valued at US$4.9 billion ($6.2 billion), based on current Boeing list prices.

Singapore Land posted group net profit of $46.5 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2012, down 85% from the same year-ago period.

Far East Hospitality Trust (Far East H-Trust) has lodged its preliminary prospectus with the Monetary Authority of Singapore for a listing that could raise around S$656 million in proceeds.
