Sunpower wins US$8.5m contract from India's JSW Steel

Sunpower Group, the China-based heat transfer technology specialist, says its subsidiary, Nanjing Shengnuo Heat Pipe Co., has clinched a US$8.5 million ($10.9 million) contract with JSW Steel, the third largest steel manufacturer in India and a unit of the Jindal Group, a conglomerate valued at US$12 billion.

As the first order from India, the group will supply three waste heat recovery units which include the manufacture of one of the largest units in China. Through use of the group’s waste heat recovery equipment, companies can recover waste heat found in sintering process to reduce energy consumption. Expected to be delivered within FY2012, this contract should boost the group’s performance in the coming year.

Professor Guo Hong Xin, Executive Chairman of Sunpower, says: “We are pleased to ink this maiden contract with a renowned organisation like the Jindal Group as it marks a new strategic milestone for the Group to grow beyond China and represents a strong vote of confidence in the quality of our well-researched waste heat recovery equipment.”
