For the month of March 2012, Tiger Airways said it carried 455,000 passengers, a 19% decrease compared to March 2011. The average load factor across Asia and Australia for the month was 84%, down one percentage point compared to March 2011.
From April 2011 to March 2012, a total of 5.5 million passengers chose to fly with Tiger Airways, a decrease of 8% compared to the number of passengers in the preceding 12 months. Average load factor for the 12-month period to March 2012 was 82%, down 4 percentage points compared to the previous 12 months.
Tiger Airways Singapore increased capacity by 12% in March 2012 compared to March 2011. During the month, Tiger Airways Singapore began operations to Dhaka, Bangladesh and will be commencing services to Kochi, India in April 2012. Further, Tiger Airways Singapore will start services to Colombo, Sri Lanka in May 2012.
Tiger Airways Australia operated at reduced capacity and on a limited schedule in March 2012 relative to March 2011, resulting in a decline in passenger numbers. Tiger Airways Australia is planning to commence operations from Sydney, its second Australian base from July 2012. Following approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia to increase the number of sectors that it can operate, Tiger Airways Australia is recruiting for ground and flying positions in preparation for the ramp up to 64 daily sectors (from 38 daily sectors) by the second half of calendar 2012.
